Tottenham Hotspur have signed Brazilian winger Savinho from Manchester City in a deal reportedly worth an initial £75 million, taking the club’s spending beyond £300 million in the current transfer window.
The 22-year-old joins Spurs after two seasons at Manchester City, where he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter.
Savinho said the opportunity to work under Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi convinced him to make the move to north London.
“It’s taken a while, but I’m very happy to be here. It’s a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world.
“As soon as I spoke to the head coach, I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level and I believe we can do that together, as a team,” Savinho said.
Tottenham are hoping the Brazilian will add pace and creativity to their attack following a turbulent campaign last season, when the club narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League.
De Zerbi’s arrival late last season helped Spurs retain their top-flight status, but his rebuilding project began poorly with a 3-0 defeat to Brentford on the opening weekend of the new Premier League campaign.
Savinho joins a growing list of high-profile arrivals, including Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Jan Paul van Hecke, while Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka have also joined on free transfers.
“Savio is a player who brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions. He has the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity,” De Zerbi said.
“We’re very pleased to have him with us, and I’m looking forward to working with him, helping him continue to grow and seeing him bring his personality to the team.”
Manchester City could reportedly receive up to an additional £10 million in add-ons as part of the agreement.
Savinho joined City from Troyes for £30 million in 2024 after impressing during a loan spell at Girona, another club within the City Football Group.
However, he failed to reproduce that form consistently in England, scoring seven goals in 84 appearances during Pep Guardiola’s final two seasons in charge of City.
There could also be further transfer activity between Tottenham and Manchester City before the window closes, with Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush reportedly expected to make the move to north London.
