The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out an eight-count criminal charge filed by the Federal Government against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is accused of impersonating the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar struck out the charge on Monday, October 12, 2026, following an application by the Federal Government seeking to discontinue proceedings at the court ahead of Adeyemi’s fresh arraignment before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, moved the application, explaining that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed the case file and the charge initially filed by the Inspector-General of Police.
According to Oyedepo, the review identified legal issues with the existing charge, including the appropriate court to hear the alleged offences.
He told the court that the documents Adeyemi allegedly forged while operating the purported agency constituted offences that could be prosecuted by the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.
The prosecution also informed the court that a fresh charge had already been filed before the FCT High Court and that Adeyemi would be arraigned again without delay.
Oyedepo consequently urged Justice Umar to strike out the existing charge in accordance with the law.
Counsel to Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application. The judge subsequently struck out the charge.
Adeyemi, 38, had been standing trial in a case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025 alongside two other defendants on allegations bordering on conspiracy and forgery.
The two co-defendants, identified only as Femi and Anu, were said to be at large, with their full surnames unknown.
The striking out of the charge at the Federal High Court follows the prosecution’s decision to pursue the case before the FCT High Court. Adeyemi’s allegations remain subject to determination by the court.
