Katsina State security forces have reported the killing of 18 suspected bandits during an overnight operation in Bakori Local Government Area, with firearms, ammunition, motorcycles and rustled livestock recovered from the scene.
The operation took place at about 1am on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Gidan Iyado in Kakumi Ward, according to a statement issued by the Katsina State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs.
The statement said the operation involved hunters, members of the Community Watch Corps and local vigilante groups, who acted on intelligence about an alleged plan by the group to carry out a mass abduction for ransom.
Security operatives reportedly laid an ambush and engaged the armed group, resulting in the deaths of 18 suspected bandits.
The ministry identified the alleged leader of the group as Alhaji Musa Duki, whom it described as a former school headmaster turned bandit kingpin operating from Mununu Forest in Faskari Local Government Area.

The security operation also led to the recovery of one G3 rifle, two AK-47 rifles and 14 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
Other items recovered were three motorcycles, two cows and 94 sheep, according to the ministry.

The ministry said no casualty was recorded among the security operatives involved in the operation.
It added that a sustained covert operation was ongoing to track the alleged kingpin and dismantle his network.
“The Ministry, on behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda assures residents that a sustained covert operation is ongoing to track and neutralize the kingpin and dismantle his network completely. We will not relent until every forest and hideout is cleared,” the statement said.
The ministry also commended the hunters, Community Watch Corps and vigilante members involved in the operation, describing their collaboration as evidence that community-led security initiatives can support efforts against banditry.
It urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security authorities, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility.
The statement was signed by Dr. Nasir Mua’zu, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs.
