Katsina State Governor and Chairman of the North-West Governors’ Forum, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has presented the North-West Peace, Security and Development Framework 2026–2030 at a high-level side event on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Radda led the opening address at the event, held under the theme “Seven States, One Ambition,” where the regional framework was presented to international partners, investors and private-sector leaders.
According to a statement issued by the Katsina State Government, the framework is intended to strengthen regional cooperation on security, attract international partnerships and expand development opportunities for young people across the seven North-West states.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Radda said insecurity remained the region’s major challenge and stressed the need for a coordinated regional response.
“Our major challenge in the Northwest is insecurity and we cannot tackle it alone. We have to come together as a region. This initiative, supported by the UNDP, is about how we collaborate, share intelligence and bring development to our people.”
The framework covers the seven North-West states and seeks to establish a common approach to peace, security and development while positioning the region for greater engagement with development partners and investors.
The UNGA engagement follows efforts by the North-West Governors’ Forum to move from individual state responses to a coordinated regional framework for addressing shared security and development challenges.
The presentation in New York places the framework before a wider international audience as the governors seek partnerships that can support its implementation.
Further details on the engagement are expected to be released by the Katsina State Government.
