Pregnancy Claim at Alex Ekubo’s Burial Sparks Widespread Reactions Online

Mourners gather at Alex Ekubo's burial ceremony as a pregnancy claim involving his wife sparks online reactions.

A claim suggesting that the wife of late Nollywood actor, Alex Ekubo, may be expecting his child has emerged as one of the most talked-about moments from his final burial ceremony held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State.

The claim surfaced during a stopover at the palace of the Eze Aro of Arochukwu before the actor’s final interment.

During remarks at the ceremony, a man initially believed by some attendees to be the traditional ruler stated that reports indicated Ekubo’s wife was pregnant and expressed hope that the unborn child would surpass the late actor’s accomplishments.

However, actress Victoria Inyama later clarified in an Instagram comment that the individual who made the statement was not the Eze Aro but a representative of the monarch.

In his remarks, the representative prayed that Ekubo’s lineage would continue and that the child, if the reports proved true, would achieve even greater success than the late actor.

The video quickly circulated across social media platforms, triggering mixed reactions from fans and commentators.

While many described the possibility as a touching final legacy left behind by the actor, others questioned the appropriateness of publicly sharing such sensitive and unverified personal information during a funeral ceremony.

Several social media users argued that such a matter should have remained private, suggesting the late actor would likely have preferred discretion for his family.

Widow Draws Sympathy During Emotional Burial Ceremony

Amid the solemn atmosphere, Ekubo’s widow, Anwuli Ekubo, drew sympathy from mourners as she quietly participated in the proceedings.

Dressed in white and wearing a nose mask and sunglasses, she maintained a composed but visibly grief-stricken presence throughout the event.

Many attendees described the burial as emotional, reflecting both the actor’s private nature and the impact he had on colleagues, fans and the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Representing the Abia State Governor, Chief of Staff Caleb Ajagba described Ekubo’s passing as a significant loss to Abia State, Nollywood and millions of admirers around the world.

“The news of Alex’s passing came as a profound shock. Today, we mourn not merely an actor, brother and friend, but a creative force, a cultural ambassador and a proud son of Arochukwu whose talent brought honour to Abia State and Nigeria,” he said.

Delivering a sermon during the funeral service, Pastor Eno Eze encouraged mourners to focus on building meaningful legacies, stressing that the value of life is measured by impact rather than longevity.

She urged attendees to embrace purposeful living and positively influence others.

Omoni Oboli’s Donation Announcement Divides Opinion

In a related development, actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli announced that proceeds from The First Lady, the first film she shot with Ekubo, would be donated to his family.

While many applauded the gesture, some social media users criticised the timing of the announcement, arguing that it could have been made after the burial activities had concluded.

The burial ceremony attracted several prominent personalities, including Ayo Makun, Obi Cubana, Ini Edo, Pretty Mike, Stan Nze, Nons Miraj, IK Ogbonna and Yomi Casual.

Ekubo, who died on May 11, 2026, was laid to rest after a series of funeral activities that began with a service of songs in Lagos and continued with a wake in Arochukwu before the final burial.
