Germany Seal Knockout Spot With Late Undav Winner
Germany booked their place in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the first time since 2014 after coming from behind to defeat Ivory Coast 2-1 in Toronto.
Substitute Deniz Undav emerged as the hero, scoring twice, including a dramatic stoppage-time winner, to complete Germany’s comeback and secure qualification.
Ivory Coast had taken the lead in the 30th minute when Franck Kessié converted from close range after sustained pressure from the Elephants.
However, Germany responded strongly in the second half.
Undav levelled the score midway through the second period with a well-taken volley before striking again in injury time to seal a crucial victory.

The victory marks a significant milestone for Germany, who had failed to progress beyond the group stage in recent World Cup tournaments since their 2014 triumph.
With six points from two matches, Germany now advance to the Round of 16 with a game to spare.
