French football icon Zinedine Zidane has reportedly signed an agreement to become the next head coach of the French national team, with a contract expected to run until June 2030.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed the development in a Facebook post on Tuesday, saying the former Real Madrid manager will be officially unveiled in the coming days.
“Zinedine Zidane has signed as the new France coach until June 2030. The story has been confirmed as Zizou will be unveiled as the new head coach in the next days — back to work with France.”
Romano added that Zidane is expected to guide France through the 2027 UEFA Nations League, UEFA Euro 2028 and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, ending the update with his trademark phrase, “Here we go, confirmed.”
The 54-year-old has been out of management since leaving Real Madrid in 2021 after his second spell in charge of the Spanish club.
During his time at Madrid, Zidane won three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles from 2016 to 2018, alongside two La Liga crowns and several domestic and international honours.
The 1998 FIFA World Cup winner has long been regarded as the leading candidate to succeed Didier Deschamps, who has managed France since 2012 and is expected to step down after the 2026 World Cup.
Zidane has repeatedly been linked with the national team job and has previously expressed his desire to coach France.
However, as of the time of filing this report, the French Football Federation had not officially confirmed his appointment.
