Zenith Bank Plc has launched an investigation into an incident involving unauthorised access to customer data, assuring customers that no financial information was compromised and that its banking services remain secure.
The bank disclosed the development in an email to customers on Wednesday, describing the incident as part of a wider global cyberattack targeting organisations across multiple sectors.
According to the lender, its incident response protocols were activated immediately after the breach was detected, alongside enhanced cybersecurity and remediation measures.
“This incident is part of a broader, global cyber-attack targeting multiple international organisations across various sectors. Upon discovery, we promptly activated our incident response protocols, cybersecurity actions and remediation efforts,” the bank said.
Zenith Bank stressed that the incident has not affected customers’ financial information, banking operations or digital platforms.
As a precaution, the bank urged customers to remain vigilant against phishing emails, fraudulent text messages and scam phone calls designed to obtain sensitive information.
“As a precaution, we encourage our customers to remain vigilant against phishing emails, text messages, or phone calls, and never to disclose their password, PIN, One-Time Password (OTP), or other security credentials to anyone,” the bank advised.
The lender reaffirmed its commitment to protecting customer information and maintaining confidence in its banking services.
The incident adds to growing cybersecurity concerns within Nigeria’s financial sector, where several banks have recently taken measures to curb impersonation and online fraud.
Earlier in April, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) disclosed that it was investigating alleged data breaches involving Sterling Bank, Remita and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
