Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has compared President Bola Tinubu to Singapore’s founding leader, Lee Kuan Yew, praising his economic reforms and expressing confidence that Nigerians will re-elect him in 2027.
Speaking at a dinner in Owerri to conclude a three-day inspection of federal and state projects by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and the Presidential Communications Team, Uzodimma said Tinubu’s administration had ushered Nigeria into a new era of economic transformation.
“In President Bola Tinubu, we have another Lee Kuan Yew,” the governor said.
Uzodimma stated that the President assumed office on May 29, 2023, with a clear understanding of Nigeria’s economic challenges and immediately embarked on reforms aimed at repositioning the country.
“The old order is gone and there is now a new order. President Tinubu knew exactly what he came to do. He started implementing the reforms immediately because he understood the task before him.”
The governor likened Nigeria’s economic situation before the reforms to the biblical story of the Israelites in Egypt, saying the difficult decisions taken by the administration were necessary to free the country from years of economic stagnation.
While acknowledging that the reforms initially caused hardship, Uzodimma said they were already yielding positive results through increased revenues available to states for infrastructure and social development.
He attributed ongoing projects across Imo State to the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Everything we are doing in Imo today is made possible because of the Renewed Hope Agenda. We are pursuing sustainable development, investing in infrastructure, healthcare, education and technology because the reforms have created the enabling environment for development.”
Uzodimma also expressed optimism that the achievements of the administration would earn President Tinubu another term in office in the 2027 general election.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, commended the Imo State Government for what he described as significant infrastructure development following the three-day inspection tour.
According to Dare, the projects demonstrated effective collaboration between the Federal Government and Imo State under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said increased allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), driven by the Federal Government’s reforms, were supporting major development projects across the state.
The projects highlighted during the inspection included the Imo Digital City, the 2,000-bed Infectious Disease Centre, the Heart Transplant Centre in Orlu, the University of Innovation, Science and Technology in Omuma, the expansion of the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre and the Orlu–Akokwa–Uga Border Road.
Dare said the projects position Imo as a model for people-centred development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
