President Bola Tinubu has pledged to tackle Nigeria’s longstanding challenges, saying his administration has accepted responsibility for problems inherited from previous governments.
Tinubu made the commitment on Thursday in Abuja while receiving the National Executive Council of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, led by its National President, Salimon Akanni Oladiti, at the State House.
The President said his administration would take an evidence-based approach to resolving the challenges facing Nigeria’s refineries.
He said the process would involve detailed research, technical assessments, restructuring and improved management to address the problems affecting the facilities.
“I’m not a man who goes looking back on everything because I’ve accepted the assets and liabilities of my predecessor,” Tinubu said.
“No matter what has happened in the years past, it’s now my responsibility as president to fix it and make it work for the greatest common good of our population. I take responsibility for that, and we will do it.”
The President’s remarks come as his administration continues efforts to address persistent challenges in the country’s oil and gas sector, including the performance and management of Nigeria’s refineries.
