A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to present the achievements of his administration as the basis for seeking re-election in the 2027 presidential election.
Momodu made the remarks on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, where he said Nigerians should assess the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) based on its performance in office.
According to him, President Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 election would depend largely on the administration’s record rather than political rhetoric.
“The 2027 election will not be difficult for Tinubu if he can show the records of his performance. Nobody hates him personally. Nobody wants to pick him out because they just don’t like him. It is about performance. Present your scorecards. So the people running around spreading hellfire, calm down and spread that energy on showing the performance of APC,” Momodu said.
The publisher also criticised the APC for blaming previous administrations for the country’s current challenges, saying the party appeared to be undermining its own record in government.
“What we see is APC abusing itself and its predecessors, saying they inherited a useless government and economy. I have never seen a place where a party destroys its own predecessors like APC,” he said.
Questioning the Tinubu administration’s handling of national issues, Momodu argued that the government should demonstrate how it has improved on the situation it inherited.
“Now, let’s assume President Tinubu inherited a bad government. What has he done to change the direction of his predecessor and change the lives of the people?”
During the interview, Momodu also commented on the strained relationship between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
His remarks followed Obasanjo’s recent statement describing his decision to pick Atiku as vice president as the greatest mistake of his political career.
Responding, Momodu alleged that the former president does not want Atiku’s long-standing presidential ambition to materialise.
Momodu, a long-time ally of Atiku Abubakar, made the comments as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election.
Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi is also expected to be among the major contenders in the presidential race.
