INEC Says Uzodinma Won Imo West APC Primary, Seeks Probe of Alleged Fake Report

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo State has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force over a disputed report circulating on social media that purportedly names former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Imo West Senatorial District.

In separate letters dated October 5 and 8, 2026, Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner Chukwuemeka Ibeziako described the circulating document as fictitious and inconsistent with the primary election report submitted to INEC’s national headquarters.

According to Ibeziako, the authentic report, dated May 18, 2026, identified Senator Hope Odidika Uzodinma as the winner of the APC senatorial primary for Imo West and the party’s duly elected candidate for the district.

The disputed document, however, allegedly named Okorocha as the winner of the primary, prompting the commission to seek an investigation into its origin and circulation.

INEC said it attached copies of the authentic report and the disputed document to its petitions as Annexures A and B, respectively.

The commission urged the DSS and police to establish the circumstances surrounding the circulation of the document and take appropriate action.

It also warned that the alleged conduct could undermine law and order in Imo State, calling on the security agencies to intervene.

The allegations are now before the relevant security agencies for investigation.
