The House of Representatives has approved an extension of the 2025 capital budget implementation deadline from September 30 to December 31.
Lawmakers granted the approval at Tuesday’s plenary, following a motion by the Majority Leader, Julius Ihonvbere.
Ihonvbere said the capital component of the 2025 budget has not been fully implemented due to economic difficulties.
The House fast-tracked the bill, moving it from first to third reading.
Fourth extension
This is the fourth time the National Assembly has moved the deadline for implementing the 2025 capital budget.
- December 23, 2025: Lawmakers approved a three-month extension to March 31, 2026, after repealing and re-enacting the 2024 and 2025 Appropriation Acts.
- March 31: The Senate and House extended the deadline from March 31 to June 30.
- June 15: The National Assembly extended the deadline from June 30 to September 30. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele said then that execution of capital projects under the 2025 Appropriation Act had not reached an optimal level.
