Madonna dominated the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, winning seven trophies, including Artist of the Year, for her album Confessions II.
Her haul mirrored her performance at the 1998 VMAs, where she won six awards for Ray of Light. Nearly three decades later, she returned to the top of the winners’ list with victories in Best Dance, Best Cinematography, Best Choreography and Best Long Form Video for Confessions II – The Film. She also won Best Album for Confessions II.
Madonna shared the Best Collaboration award with Sabrina Carpenter for their song Bring Your Love, and the pair accepted the trophy together on stage.
Taylor Swift was also among the night’s biggest winners, taking home Video of the Year for The Fate of Ophelia and Best Direction for Opalite. She also received the special MTV VMA Artist Director Honour, recognising her creative role behind music visuals.
BTS won Song of the Year for Swim, along with Best K-Pop and Best Group. Sienna Spiro won Best New Artist, while LISA claimed Best Pop for Dream featuring Kentaro Sakaguchi.
Cardi B featuring Kehlani won Best Hip-Hop for Safe, Bruno Mars took Best R&B for I Just Might, and Olivia Rodrigo won Best Alternative for the cure. Bad Bunny won Best Latin for NUEVAYoL, while Ella Langley won Best Country for Choosin’ Texas.
In technical categories, PinkPantheress won Best Art Direction for Stateside + Zara Larsson, Sabrina Carpenter won Best Editing for House Tour, and Ariana Grande won Best Visual Effects for hate that i made you love me. The same song also won Song of Summer.
Nirvana received the Video Vanguard Award.
