The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has terminated the appointment of a staff member for extorting unsuspecting candidates, reaffirming its commitment to sanitising the admission and examination process.
The development was disclosed in the Board’s release bulletin on Monday. JAMB said the action showed that its anti-fraud efforts were not limited to external fraudsters.
“The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has terminated the appointment of one of its staff members for extorting unsuspecting candidates, in further demonstration of its renewed commitment to flushing out bad eggs from the system,” the Board stated.
It warned staff to desist from any conduct capable of undermining its integrity or exploiting candidates and the public, noting such actions would attract severe consequences under established rules.
The Board said the same determination applied to pursuing fraud outside the organisation was now being brought to bear on internal misconduct, adding that the termination sends “a clear and unequivocal message that its zero-tolerance policy on corruption and misconduct applies to everyone, irrespective of status or position.”
JAMB said it would not shield staff members who abused their positions or the trust placed in them by candidates and the public, stressing that anyone found crossing the line would face sanctions in line with established rules.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a clean, accountable and professional workforce, stating that the fight against fraud and misconduct “must begin from within if the integrity of its operations is to be fully preserved.”
