The Ebonyi State Government has approved a ₦30,000 monthly stipend for every National Youth Service Corps member deployed to the state.
The allowance was announced during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Francis Nwifuru, the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Chidiebere Onyia, said the state remained committed to the welfare, security and development of corps members.
He described Ebonyi as a peaceful and hospitable state with opportunities for young people, urging the corps members to use their service year to develop themselves, build relationships across cultures and contribute to their host communities.
“This administration remains committed to supporting your growth, welfare, and safety,” Onyia said.
He also urged the corps members to contribute meaningfully to their primary assignments across the state.
NYSC Seeks Camp Infrastructure Upgrade
The NYSC State Coordinator, Malgwi Maidariya, commended the Ebonyi Government for its partnership with the scheme and investment in youth development.
She, however, called for additional government intervention to upgrade infrastructure at the orientation facility located at the Old MacGregor College in Afikpo.
Among the projects requested were the modernisation of the central camp kitchen and construction of a standard dining facility.
Maidariya also called for the establishment of a fully equipped Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development centre, renovation of the camp’s perimeter fence and upgrades to facilities within the multipurpose hall.
Addressing the corps members, she urged them to maintain discipline, participate actively in camp programmes and uphold the values of patriotism, integrity and selfless service.
She also commended camp officials, resource personnel and security agencies for their roles in maintaining order and ensuring the smooth running of the orientation exercise.
The swearing-in ceremony featured the administration of the oath of allegiance to the new corps members, tactical drills by the Man ‘O’ War unit, traditional performances and an inspection of infrastructure development projects within the camp.
