Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has approved the release of ₦4 billion for the second phase of the Community Development Programme (CDP), with every ward in the state set to receive funding for grassroots projects selected by residents.
The approval was granted during the 12th Regular Meeting of the Katsina State Executive Council for 2026, held on Wednesday at the General Muhammadu Buhari Government House in Katsina.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Bala Zango, said the Executive Council approved several strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening grassroots development, women’s empowerment, education, economic reforms and public service delivery.
Providing details of the Community Development Programme, the Programme Coordinator, Kamaladden Kabir, said each of the state’s 361 wards will receive ₦10 million to implement projects identified and prioritised by community members.
According to him, the funding follows the success of the programme’s first phase and will enable Community Development Committees to continue delivering projects that directly address local development needs.
“The release of these funds demonstrates Governor Radda’s commitment to grassroots development by empowering communities to identify and execute projects that have direct impact on the lives of the people,” Kabir said.
The Executive Council also approved the 2026 counterpart funding for the implementation and expansion of the Nigeria for Women Project, which seeks to improve the livelihoods of poor and vulnerable women through economic empowerment, financial inclusion and expanded access to social support.
Zango said Katsina has become one of Nigeria’s leading states in implementing the programme, attributing the achievement to the administration’s commitment to women’s development.
“The approval reinforces the administration’s determination to empower women economically, promote financial inclusion, and improve household livelihoods across Katsina State,” he said.
In the education sector, the Council approved a contract for the supply and installation of Smart School Information Technology infrastructure at the newly established Model Secondary Schools in Jikamshi and Dumurkul.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Yusuf Jibia, said the facilities will include smart classrooms, interactive digital boards, campus-wide ICT networks and other modern learning technologies designed to equip students with digital skills for the global economy.
The Council also approved the publication of the 2025 Business Enabling Reform Action Plan (BERAP) Progress Report under the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) Programme.
Economic Adviser to the Governor, Kahlil Khalil, said the initiative reflects the state’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business, strengthening governance and attracting investment.
“The publication of the BERAP Progress Report demonstrates Katsina State’s continued commitment to institutional reforms that enhance transparency, improve the investment climate, and stimulate economic growth,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Executive Council approved the procurement of water treatment chemicals for the second quarter of 2026 to sustain potable water supply across the state.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, Malam Dasuki Abubakar, said water tanker trucks will be deployed across Katsina metropolis during the ongoing two-week rehabilitation and upgrade of the state’s waterworks to ensure residents continue to have access to clean water.
The approvals reflect the Radda administration’s broader agenda of promoting grassroots development, digital education, women’s empowerment, economic growth and improved public services across Katsina State.
