The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that prospective corps members will no longer be mobilised for national service without obtaining clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD).
The directive comes as the scheme intensifies preparations for the mobilisation of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ prospective corps members, while also strengthening measures to ensure the integrity of the mobilisation process and the safety of participants.
In a public notice shared on its official X account on Monday, the NYSC said NERD clearance is now a compulsory requirement for all prospective corps members (PCMs).
The scheme urged eligible graduates to complete the clearance process early to avoid delays in mobilisation.
It warned that failure to obtain the required clearance could prevent prospective corps members from participating in the national service programme.
“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation.”
Reiterating the mandatory nature of the requirement, the scheme added:
“NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”
Although the NYSC did not provide further details about the clearance process in the notice, the directive signals a tighter verification process ahead of the next orientation exercise.
The advisory comes shortly after the scheme announced the mobilisation of another batch of prospective corps members for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year, urging tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all required documentation before the commencement of orientation camp activities.
It also follows a recent safety advisory in which the NYSC warned prospective corps members against travelling to orientation camps at night.
The scheme advised them to break their journeys where necessary and spend the night in safe locations or designated military and security formations, rather than continue travelling after dark.
The renewed advisories underscore the NYSC’s efforts to strengthen both the credibility of its mobilisation process and the safety of prospective corps members amid persistent security concerns on Nigerian highways.
With mobilisation activities gathering pace, prospective corps members are expected to complete all registration and verification requirements, including the newly emphasised NERD clearance, before reporting to their respective orientation camps.
