Iran has dismissed President Donald Trump’s claim that Tehran asked the United States to refrain from launching fresh military strikes, describing the allegation as false.
State-affiliated Mehr News Agency, citing Iranian military officials on Sunday, said Trump’s remarks were “nothing but a new lie” and insisted the country’s armed forces remain on high alert.
According to the report, Iran’s military is fully prepared to respond to any potential escalation.
The response came a day after Trump said the United States was “ready to go against the Islamic Republic” but had delayed further military action after receiving requests from Iran and other Middle Eastern countries.
Trump said any decision to avoid fresh strikes would depend on reaching an agreement with Tehran.
“This would include the Immediate, Complete and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Fars News Agency, quoting a source close to the country’s negotiators, said the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed as long as Washington continued what it described as hostile actions.
“As long as the United States maintains its hostile actions, the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed,” the source said.
Iran has maintained restrictions on the strategic waterway since the outbreak of the conflict, requiring vessels to obtain permission and pay transit fees before passing through the strait.
