The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has sealed three alcohol manufacturing companies in Ota, Ogun State, for allegedly violating the Federal Government’s ban on the production of alcoholic beverages in sachets and PET bottles.
The enforcement operation was led by the Assistant Director of NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, Kunke Ojo, as the agency intensified efforts to enforce the nationwide prohibition.
NAFDAC said inspectors uncovered multiple regulatory violations during visits to the affected factories.
At the first facility, officials found sachet alcoholic drinks being produced alongside large quantities of PET bottles. Although production was initially suspended, a follow-up inspection revealed that the sachet products had been secretly removed from the premises.
The agency described the removal of products already under regulatory enforcement as a serious violation.
At the second company, whose identity was not disclosed, the enforcement team allegedly caught workers continuing the production of sachet alcoholic beverages despite the Federal Government’s ban.
The factory was immediately sealed.
NAFDAC said it had earlier inspected the third company in January, placing 22 production machines on hold and confiscating millions of PET bottles and sachet packaging materials for destruction.
During the latest inspection, officials allegedly discovered that the factory had broken the agency’s seals and resumed production using the restricted machines.
The agency said millions of additional PET bottles were found at the facility, prompting its immediate closure.
Reaffirming its commitment to enforcing the ban, NAFDAC said it would not tolerate attempts to evade regulatory measures.
“This enforcement exercise is part of our strict commitment to ensuring full compliance with the nationwide ban and protecting public health by removing prohibited alcoholic products from the market.”
The agency also urged consumers to remain vigilant and report the illegal production or sale of banned sachet alcoholic beverages to the nearest NAFDAC office.
