Big Brother Naija Season 4 winner, Mercy Eke, has revealed that she regrets participating in the reality television show despite acknowledging that it transformed her life and career.
Speaking during an interview on media personality Toke Makinwa’s show, Toke Moments, published on Saturday, Eke said the fame that followed her victory came with a level of public scrutiny that has made it difficult to enjoy a normal life.
“I regret going to Big Brother, even though I love the benefits that come from it,” she said.
The reality star explained that constant attention and comparisons with others have affected her peace of mind.
“I wish I didn’t go, because I have friends who… I know people who are like, okay, this person has passed me but nobody’s talking about them, because they are not out there. But me, I’m not doing anything, and I can’t even sleep at night.”
Eke, who won the fourth edition of Big Brother Naija in 2019 before returning for the All Stars edition, said she re-entered the house with the goal of competing for the prize money.
However, she admitted the experience was different from what she expected.
“I felt like all of us, we have money already, but a lot of people were not acting like they didn’t have money before. They were more hungry than me.”
She added that she has no intention of participating in the reality show again.
Beyond reality television, Eke said she remains focused on personal growth and setting ambitious goals, drawing inspiration from successful Nigerian women.
“I work hard, I challenge myself, I set goals for myself. A lot of that drives me to become a better version of myself, and then just keep moving, getting things done.”
She also dismissed claims that her lifestyle is financed by a married man, stating that she has been in a relationship with a single partner for the past four years.
Eke further spoke about completing a master’s degree in the United Kingdom, saying the programme strengthened her understanding of financial management and business operations.
“No knowledge is a waste.”
