World Cup: Mexico Reach Knockout Stage, Canada Crush Qatar 6-0, Switzerland Hammer Bosnia

Mexico celebrate World Cup qualification as Canada and Switzerland record dominant victories.

Mexico became the first nation to secure a place in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after edging South Korea 1-0 in front of a packed crowd at the Guadalajara Stadium.

Luis Romo scored the decisive goal to send El Tri into the next round before 45,000 home supporters.

The breakthrough came five minutes into the second half when South Korea goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu spilled the ball following a collision with teammate Lee Gi-hyuk, allowing midfielder Romo to tap into an empty net for his first-ever World Cup goal on his first tournament start.

The victory also guarantees Mexico top spot in Group A, marking the first time the co-host nation has finished as winners of a World Cup group.

Canada Record Historic First World Cup Victory

Co-hosts Canada delivered one of the standout performances of the tournament, dismantling Qatar 6-0 to secure their first-ever FIFA World Cup victory.

Jonathan David starred with a hat-trick as Canada recorded the biggest win ever achieved by a CONCACAF nation at a World Cup.

Cyle Larin and Nathan Saliba also found the net, while a Qatar own goal completed the rout.

Qatar’s night went from bad to worse as they finished the match with nine men.

Homam El Amin was sent off in the 33rd minute for a professional foul, while Assim Omer Madibo received a red card following a VAR review after a dangerous tackle that resulted in Ismael Kone suffering a broken leg.

Switzerland Finish Strong Against Bosnia

Switzerland also secured an emphatic victory, defeating 10-man Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1.

Substitute Johan Manzambi inspired the comeback with two goals as all five goals in the encounter arrived during the final 20 minutes.

The 20-year-old midfielder opened the scoring in the 74th minute and became the youngest player to score a brace as a substitute in a men’s FIFA World Cup match.
